UniFi - Which devices use active PoE and passive PoE?

An overview of which UniFi devices support what types of PoE

Last updated: October 9, 2026

A comprehensive look at which UniFi devices support active PoE and passive PoE. It is worth bearing in mind, all the devices that support 802.3af and 802.3at do by default support 48v passive PoE too. In this guide, 24v PoE will be referred to as 'Passive PoE'.

Passive PoE (24v)

These devices all now support both active PoE and 24v. However, earlier versions of the AC-Lite and AC-LR only supported 24v. Check the back of your device to make sure it supports the PoE standard you intend to use. If you are unsure, feel free to contact the HostiFi support team.

NOTE: Powering up devices not designed to take 24v can damage them.

  • UAP-AC-LR
  • UAP-AC-Mesh

Active PoE (802.3af/at/bt)

These devices in the table all support active PoE, but at different standards. Larger devices such as the WiFi BaseStation XG require 802.3bt and cannot be powered by af or at.

All UniFi PoE switches that can offer 802.3at will also be able to offer 802.3af and the devices will figure this out automatically.

PoE Switches

(This is categorised by PoE type the switch can output)

Ubiquiti's first generation of PoE switches for UniFi did support 24v as well as 802.3af and 802.3at where applicable. However, with the new generation of UniFi PoE switches, they don't have support for 24v passive PoE anymore, just active PoE.

*PoE++ required for full PoE passthrough - PoE budget when powered with AF is 8W, with AT it is 20W and with BT it is 46W. The USW-Flex can also be powered with a PoE adaptor, when done so the PoE budget is also 46W. When using a PoE adaptor, it must be configured as such within the UniFi GUI.

**PoE++ required for full PoE passthrough - Max PoE budget of 16W when powered with AT or 42W when powered with BT. For increased PoE budget, use the optional AC PSU.
