U7 Pro Max vs U7 Pro XGS
A comparison of the Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro Max and the Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro XGS access points to work out which one is best for you
August 6, 2025
Ubiquiti followed up to the U6 Lite with the U7 Lite in March 2025, and it offers an affordable entry level access point into the UniFi lineup. As the name suggests, the main difference is the addition of 802.11be (WiFi 7), but it is lacking 6GHz support.

Both access points are priced at $99 in the US, but Ubiquiti no longer officially sells the U6 Lite direct from its store, but some distributors might still stock the device if required. However, the U7 Lite has the exact same form factor and uses the same mounting hardware as the original AC Lite and the U6 Lite, so upgrading and replacements are super simple.
The U7 Lite also has a number of other improvements, such as a 2.5GbE uplink port and support for 160MHz and 240MHz channel widths on 5GHz. This is vs the 1GbE port on the U6 Lite and the maximum of 80MHz.
Also, despite the U7 Lite being the same physical size, Ubiquiti has also upgraded the antenna gain on 2.4GHz from 3dBi to 4dBi and from 3dBi to 5dBi on 5GHz. Ubiquiti is also quoting that the maximum clients has dropped from 300 to 200 when going from the U6 Lite to the U7 Lite. This drop in max clients was also seen between the U6 Pro and the U7 Pro.
A change that Ubiquiti made in going from U6 to U7 was the omission of Bluetooth, which removes the quick setup support from the UniFi mobile app (although you can use our HostiFi Device Discovery Tool for this) and drops support for the UP-Sense devices. If you want to continue using those sensors, you'll now need the new SuperLink device.
Because Ubiquiti has kept both access points at the same price point, there isn't really any downsides in upgrading from the U6 Lite to the U7 Lite. However, it won't be one to recommend to rip and replace, as these access points lack 6GHz support and the upgrade won't be that noticeable. However, if any older installed U6 Lite devices stop working for any reason, then the natural one to get at the same size and price point, would be the U7 Lite.
