Ubiquiti started launching its range of UniFi managed UPS models in late 2025. Things initially kicked off with the original UPS Tower, which offers a very good entry level option for a lot of installs, then later on things expanded to the larger UPS 2U. Both are priced well and have competitive features with seamless integration into UniFi for notifications and graceful shutdown of supported devices. However, while the two offerings have been great for smaller deployments, a lot of integrators and MSPs need a UPS that can offer longer runtime, more features and higher output. While Ubiquiti seems to have delivered on that promise, the new UPS 2U Pro does seem to be missing a few things that perhaps people seem to most want from a managed UniFi UPS.

So, what's new?

When compared to the smaller UPS 2U, actually quite a lot. For starters, the 2U Pro is a lot bigger and it might be too long for some smaller racks. It comes in at 630mm deep.

The other area which has improved is the battery, which is significantly larger at over three times the size of the one found in the standard 2U model. Its now 720Wh, with a 22 minute runtime when running at half its load, which is 960W. If required, the max capacity is 1920W.

One major issue with the other UPS models is the lack of individual outlet control, they're either all on or off. Thankfully, with this new UPS 2U Pro, each outlet can be controlled, either from the new 3.7-inch touchscreen or via the UniFi dashboard. Each port has its own power monitoring stats too, which is a nice touch.

One major upgrade is the addition of pure sine wave output, which will provide a cleaner output to sensitive enterprise equipment when the UPS is running on battery.

What could be improved?

The major downside with all three of Ubiquiti's UPS models so far, is the lack of more advanced batteries. To date, only lead acid batteries have been available which are heavier, tend to recharge slower and just simply don't last as long as Li-ion or LFP. Lead acid batteries are cheaper, but get worse with age and will need replacing at some stage.

Going forward, it would be good to see Ubiquiti release other models with LFP batteries instead of lead acid.

Availability and pricing

For now, the new UniFi UPS 2U Pro is only available in the US and it retails for $679. Like the UPS Tower and UPS 2U, it would be safe to assume that Ubiquiti will have separate SKUs for the EU and UK later down the line.
