Should you still deploy the UniFi USG?
Should the UniFi USG and USG Pro 4 still be used in 2025?
September 19, 2025
Ubiquiti launched its first NAS device nearly a year ago in October 2024, and this was essentially a repurposed UNVR Pro with different software. Ubiquiti is still going to offer the UNAS Pro alongside its line of new devices, but these smaller units like the UNAS 2 are more suitable for home use.

One of the new UNAS devices is the entry level UNAS 2, which as the name suggests has two hard drive bays, capable of holding 2 3.5-inch drives. One of the main unique features is that this can be powered by PoE, specifically PoE++. Although, a 60W PoE injector is included should you not have a compatible network switch. The network port is rated at 2.5 GbE.
On the front is a USB-C port, which can be used for external hard drive expansion and this is capable of 5Gbps.
Just like the original UNAS Pro, the UNAS 2 runs UniFi Drive, which is Ubiquiti's licence free software for managing network attached storage devices. The platform has had various large updates over the past few months, now allowing for seamless backup to Amazon AWS and Backblaze and much more.
The new UNAS 2 comes in either black or white and is available now in the US for $199 direct from Ubiquiti.
HostiFi provides hosting for both Ubiquiti and TP-Link software-defined-networking (SDN) applications, with servers for UniFi, UISP and Omada. We also offer network consulting, with HostiFi Professional Services.
