These new EAV switches are designed for modern audio systems for use in stadiums, home cinemas and other locations with big video walls and complex needs, with super low latency. Ubiquiti is supporting quite a few popular protocols too, including Danre, Shure, ST 2110 and more. No doubt more will be added with feedback as users get their hands on these soon.
The main reason these types of switches exist is to cut down latency, which is especially important for wide scale audio systems for example. Ubiquiti is handling the latency and measuring it for every hop the packets take, recorrecting it if it becomes out of sync.
Each switch also supports an SMA input for using GPS grandmaster for time sync, although both Boundary Clock and Transparent Clock are also supported.
Both EAV Switch models and the upcoming EAV Bridge are manageable within UniFi Network, meaning support with HostiFi servers will be possible too, without the need for another application to be used.
There are two models to choose from, one for Ethernet called the EAV-XG-24-PoE, with up to 1,850W of PoE budget. This features 24 10G Ethernet ports, with each one supporting PoE+++. There's also four uplink ports, at 100G using QSFP28.
The EAV-XG-24-PoE is $3,999 in the US and £3,816 in the UK.
The other model is the EAV-Fiber, which features 20 10G SFP+ ports and two 100G QSFP28 uplink ports.
The EAV-Fiber is $2,999 in the US and £2,862 in the UK.
The upcoming EAV Bridge will make streaming video and audio over the network, at up to 4K60 that much simpler.
