Ubiquiti recently announced the new UXG-Enterprise and the Enterprise Fortress Gateway (EFG), but which one to buy? Both devices are pretty much identical, it is just down to how they are managed. Both the UXG-Enterprise and the EFG cost $1,999 in the US, have support for Shadow Mode High Availability (VRRP) and can route at over 12.5Gbps, with IDS and IPS enabled.
The UXG Enterprise, like the name suggests is a UXG which means like the other UXG models, it can be adopted to an external controller, such as HostiFi. This removes the complexity of hosting UniFi Network on device and will be much more reliable as a result. It doesn't seem Ubiquiti has removed any features either, both devices support the same set of features, including VRRP and NeXT AI Inspection.
Here are some highlights:
👍 - Can route at over 12.5Gbps with IDS/IPS enabled
👍 - Supports VRRP for advanced redundancy
👍 - Has hot swappable dual PSUs for improved redundancy
👍 - Can be adopted to HostiFi (or any other cloud provider) for reliable remote management
Despite the EFG having the word gateway in its title, it is more like a traditional UniFi Cloud Gateway, previously known as a UniFi OS Console. The EFG runs the UniFi Network Application and can only do so for one site. Other than hosting the UniFi Network app, the EFG and UXG Enterprise are virtually identical.
Here are some highlights:
👍 - Can route at over 12.5Gbps with IDS/IPS enabled
👍 - Supports VRRP for advanced redundancy
👍 - Has hot swappable dual PSUs for improved redundancy
👎 - Cannot be adopted to HostiFi
👎 - Hosts UniFi Network itself
If you need the extreme performance that the UXG Enterprise or EFG can offer, and you want to use cloud hosting from HostiFi, or another cloud provider then the UXG Enterprise is the one to get. It offers the same performance as the EFG, but without the complexity of the device running the UniFi Network Application itself.
Unfortunately, the only downside is that this device is not yet available, but will be on 30th September 2024.
HostiFi provides hosting for both Ubiquiti and TP-Link software-defined-networking (SDN) applications, with servers for UniFi, UISP and Omada. We also offer network consulting, with HostiFi Pro.
