Ubiquiti has, for a number of years had two different versions of the UniFi Network Application. One version is designed to run on your own hardware, whether that be Windows, Linux, a Raspberry Pi or even on macOS. UniFi OS then came around shortly after Ubiquiti launched the first UDM and then subsequently on the UDM Pro. UniFi OS has over time slightly deviated away from original UniFi Network Application with specific custom features being only available on those devices.

What is the UniFi OS Server?

Despite its confusing name, UniFi OS Server is not a dedicated hardware appliance. It is instead a downloadable software package.

Available through the Early Access program, Ubiquiti is now offering the same software than runs on the UniFi Dream Machine Pro, Cloud Key Gen2+ and other Cloud Gateways for download, licence free to use on your own hardware.

UniFi OS Server supports multiple sites, just like the current UniFi Network Application (and the one we use at HostiFi) but offers the features that have so far, been exclusive to Cloud Gateways such as InnerSpace, SiteMagic, UniFi Identity and Teleport VPN.

When will it be available?

At the moment, UniFi OS Server is only available through the Early Access program and will likely be available to download and run as an official general release pretty soon.

What about HostiFi UniFi Servers?

At the moment, UniFi OS Server is only available through Ubiquiti's beta program, Early Access - but we are actively undertaking extensive testing and evaluation. This is to make sure that once Ubiquiti release UniFi OS Server to the public, we can work on implementing it as soon as possible and offering it to customers.
