What are the differences between UniFi OS Server and self-hosted UniFi Network?
March 26, 2026

After the initial release of the SuperLink Gateway in January 2025, Ubiquiti has now expanded the lineup with the addition of the new SuperLink Gateway HA. The main benefits of this new model are the built in battery backup, Thread Border Router and cellular backup radio. It also commands a higher price tag, jumping up from $129 to $199 US.

There are quite a few things that Ubiquiti has changed with this new device, with the main focus being on high availability, given the HA name. The main, and probably the largest change is the addition of an integrated battery. The battery isn't huge but it is 11.8Wh in size, which Ubiquiti says will last around 2.2 hours.
There is also an integrated 4G/LTE modem, which is likely to be used to allow connectivity for the connected SuperLink Sensors, which given it is an alarm and security system, is a welcome change.
At this stage it isn't clear how the connectivity for those sensors will work if the device running the UniFi Protect application goes offline, however the SuperLink Gateway HA is due to launch in Q3 2026, so more infomation should be available in time.
The other addition is a Thread radio, which is something that is used a lot with Apple HomeKit smart home deployments and other providers from Samsung SmartThings and Google Home. How this will tie in with those systems remains to be seen, but it could mean that Ubiquiti could be looking to integrate with third party accessories.
Lastly is the omission of Bluetooth, which is something that was added to the standard SuperLink Gateway. This allows communication with the All-In-One Sensor, which could previosly connect via Bluetooth to some UniFi Access Points. However, with newer models that support was removed. Supposedly, the new SuperLink Gateway HA doesn't have this due to it supporting Thread on similar frequiences.
The new SuperLink Gateway HA will be available to purchase from Ubiquiti for $199 US in Q3 2026.
